rawmarrow do you need better photos or are you lacking strategy

Starting out as a solo or small business owner means balancing a lot—product development, website setup, packaging, and, of course, marketing. For many, product photography gets thrown into the mix as a “must-have” for driving sales. And honestly? It is a factor. However, we have had clients in the past that come to us thinking better product photos will get them more sales. And honestly….it’s not ALWAYS the case. Incidentally same goes for “better website”, “better logo” “better SEO”, better this or that. While all these elements are important, the core issue might be something deeper—like lacking a strong strategy.

Is it your photos or is it lack of strategy?

Assess if it’s better product photos you actually need or if your business is actually lacking a ….here comes that word you say I use too much -strategy.

Before investing in better product photos, ask yourself if the real issue is a lack of strategy. High-quality visuals matter, but they aren’t a substitute for a clear plan that connects your products with the right audience.

Many business owners, especially at the start, put a lot of pressure on themselves to get perfect product photos. And sometimes, when sales aren’t where they want them to be, they blame their existing photos for not being ‘good enough.’ This is a common frustration – but here’s the thing: while good photography can definitely help, it’s not the whole story.

In reality, one of the most overlooked factors in driving sales is

Strategy First sign, rawmarrow skeleton.

Without a well-thought-out plan to connect your products with the right audience, no amount of beautifully lit photos is going to make up the difference. This is something we’ve seen time and time again – businesses focusing on the visuals and neglecting the other essential elements that lead to conversions.

If you are struggling to know if you actually have a strategy we have a free guide here to help you identify any gaps.

If it is your Photos.

Studies show that high-quality visuals can make or break a customer’s decision to buy. But let’s be real for a second. If you’re just starting out, affording a professional photographer is often out of reach. It’s one more thing on the already long list of “expenses I can’t quite justify yet.” Yet, everywhere you turn, there’s advice about how amazing product photography is going to skyrocket your sales.

So how do you bridge that gap between knowing what you need and not quite being able to afford it? This is where DIY and learning the basics come in. And no, you don’t need a studio or a high-end camera to make it work. You just need a few simple tips and some creativity to get your products looking their best.

That’s why we created the Product Photography Challenge. It’s a challenge and guide designed specifically for solo and small business owners who are trying to make their products stand out, but don’t have the resources to hire a pro just yet. It covers the fundamentals of product photography—lighting, composition, and styling—all things you can do at home, using just your mobile phone and things you have.
